GRAM VIKAS
Towards Sustainable Rural Development

Being an agrarian country, even today agriculture continues to contribute as significant as 60% to the GDP of our economy. Besides the speeding urbanization, still significant size of the population of rural India is indulged in agricultural and agro-allied activities. Yet, the very harsh reality is that, the majority of the population involved in agricultural does not receive the actual benefits as desired. This further has diverse impact on the standard and quality of life of the people thus adding to the injustice faced due to the existing social stratifications and other reasons.
'Gram-Vikas: towards sustainable rural development' is an attempt to reach beyond the abovementioned issues and strive towards the holistic and sustainable development. Beginning with the livelihood issues, we envision spreading our interventions in the various potential spectrums of rural India such as; education, health, political empowerment, non-conventional energy resource and natural resource management. Direct community participation and community partnership at all levels; these are the basic principles at the heart of this project.
Goal:
To attain holistic development of rural lives by way of bringing about development in agriculture and agro-allied fields and thus by enhancing the opportunities for livelihood.
Objectives:
- To identify the specific needs of people in the rural areas in order to enhance their agricultural production and agro-allied activities.
- To mobilize the resources available within the village and around the village.
- To strategically channelize these resources with informed community participation and thus enhance the livelihood opportunities.
- To strive towards overall socio-economic and political empowerment of all the people in the community barring all existing socio-economic disparities.
