Health Project for Tribal PeopleWe had visited a project in Karjat which is dedicated towards the betterment of the Tribal areas in Karjat. We also covered an event i.e. the Medical Camp held for the tribal people twice a week.
"K. Shri. Anant Shridhar Oak Vanoshadhi Research and Development center" works for the Tribal society in Karjat which is spread across a larger area into many villages and Wadis. This Center is Managed by volunteers of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Since Inception of this project i.e. from Last 5 yrs Dr Deepak Ghume as a Volunteer has been organizing activities and taking care of this project.
The land for this project which is more than 5 acres was donated by Shri. Anant Shridhar Oak, and hence it is largely known as OAK FARM. This Farm has various medicinal herbs and plants, nearly 120 mango trees, papaya trees, all type of Tulsi; in short we can see all types of plants and trees.
The Various Projects Undertaken by this Center:
Main objective of this center is to make the tribal people self dependant and hence focusing on Health, Education and Earnings. They organize the activities which make them learn new skills. Following are the activities conducted
- Honey Processing Activity
- Training for Gardening and plantation
- Training for farming
- Self help groups to train women in different skills
- Medical camps held twice a week
- Value Education sessions for children
The Future project of this center is to establish a laboratory for the purpose of R&D.
The medical check up camp for the tribal and villagers is organized by Rotary Club of Mulund, Rotary Club of Karjat and Maharastra Seva Sangh-Mulund.
There were many Doctors form Mulund who participated in this event and offered there service for a good cause.
The Event started with felicitation of doctors and the people who made this event a success. People who were present were Mr. Deepak Shah and Dollar Shah President and Secretary of Rotract club of Mulund respectively, Mr. Ashok shah President of Rotract club and Members of Maharashtra Seva Sangh.
After the felicitation medical check up was started by 10.30 am for about 3 hours. Few Volunteer doctors had taken the responsibility of the total health check up. There were good response form villagers and the wadis. More than 300 villagers with there children had come for the check up. All the villagers were distributed Tonic bottles and medicines as per the requirements.
With the help of Maharashtra Seva Sangh some villagers who are suffering from any illness or diseases are brought to Mumbai for treatment and medical check ups are conducted every week and medicines are provided from the Oak center.
